I am a research scientist at Tableau and was formerly an associate professor of cartography at a major public research university. I enjoy thinking about spatial data and how to make more effective maps for data exploration and communication.
I love to think about how to help people find more in their data. I like to think about and, hopefully, find answers to interesting problems.
I enjoy working with spatial data - from data cleaning to exploring to communicating with the final map.
I’m most interested in working with nonprofits that focus on the environment, people (helping with food, shelter, health, and other basic needs), and transportation (bike, bus, foot are my personal favorites).
I enjoy being useful, and I enjoy open dialog that lead to realistic expectations based on my capabilities and the organizations needs / data.
